D23, the first official community for Disney fans (launched 03-10-09), included a General Limited-Edition figurine from the Walt Disney Classics Collection at Boutique 23 of Walt Disney and Oswald.Before Mickey came to be, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit hopped to animated stardom from the pen and ink of the early Disney Brothers Studio. This dapper Walt Disney sculpture celebrates his seminal success with the happy-go-lucky hare. Plussed with pewter ears, it is presented on custom hardwood base with inlaid porcelain plaque commemorating "Walt Disney and Oswald'' in a vintage art font. The sculpture can be removed from its base.
Sculpted by renowned Disney artist Ruben Procopio, the sculpture is a General Limited Edition of 1,500. 400 of the General Limited Edition will be produced with an exclusive Walt Disney Archives Collection/D23 backstamp (pictured above) and has begun to ship this month with many collectors receiving theirs last week.This special backstamp version is available only at DisneyShopping.com. The remaining portion of 1,100 will be available to authorized WDCC retailers and will begin shipping to them in September.

It is possible that the 400 piece D23 version of Walt/Oswald has sold out as it is currently unavailable to order on the Disney Store website. You can view the item's page if you do a search on its item number 300881.

On the Disneyshopping.com website, it says the follwoing:
This item is not available. This special order will ship in July.
It's very possible the portion of the edition size (400) has sold out. If so, the remaining edition size (1,100) will be available through authorized dealers (scheduled for a Sept. release) without the special backstamp.

Now that we have our first D23 exclusive WDCC sculpture, I'm hoping there will be more coming in the future.
The Hat Box Ghost from the Haunted Mansion would make a GREAT 2nd choice for D23!! Obscure character, loved by many adoring die hard HM fans, and can help celebrate the 40th Anniversary year of the HM!

So want to see the Hatbox Ghost done, be it via a Haunted Mansion Series or D23. If they did the Hatbox Ghost, even though it could be available through dealers without the special backstamp, might just get me to join ]:)

Who's to say that a 2nd D23 WDCC piece might be available at dealers? They could make it limited such that only D23 members are able to order it and not make it open to non-D23'ers. ;)

I think D23 WDCC pieces should be the obscure ones like the Hatbox Ghost.
Just find a way to have any and all D23 members (who pay a high premium to join) be able to get it. Commissioned pay upfront piece with either one or two available per membership.
I'm curious to know if the 400 D23 pieces have sold out yet.
As most of you know, I've been reluctant to join D23 for lots of different reasons...
IF, however, IF they ever did a Haunted Mansion WDCC piece - particularly the Hat Box Ghost, I would JOIN IN A HEARTBEAT just to get that piece.
Pay $75.00 just for the privilege of paying another sum to get a wonderful WDCC Haunted Mansion piece? Sounds outrageous? I'd do it, with a SMILE!
