Silly Symphony Series

2007 marked the debut of the Silly Symphony Series with the release of the Ugly Duckling and his Mother in February. "A Loving Embrace" is an Open Edition release, sculpted by Jacqueline Perreault Gonzales.

The second release, The Old Mill and an Opening Title started to arrive at retailers last week. "Pastoral Sunset" is a Numbered Limited Edition (NLE) of 750, sculpted by Larry Nikolai. The Opening Title is an Open Edition release.

For those who attended the Sneak Peek of Fall and Winter releases from Walt Disney Classics Collection at the Art of Disney Gallery located in the Downtown Disney® Marketplace from Tuesday, May 22nd thru Monday, May 28th had the opportunity to see the upcoming third release in this exciting new series! Little Hiawatha and Bunny will be making their WDCC debut in August. "Mighty Hunter", is an Open Edition boxed set, sculpted by Jacqueline Perreault Gonzales.

This new series, is not the WDCC's first time where a Silly Symphony short was the subject of a WDCC release. Silly Symphony Releases: Past & Present was a blog entry I made back in April on those releases.

A complete listing of the Silly Symphony shorts can be found at The Big Cartoon Database.

I just want to thank the WDCC for doing these Silly Symphony pieces. They are wonderful and a tribute to a wonderful set of shorts produced by Walt. I can't wait to see & BUY more!

I whole-heartedly agree with Matthew. This has been a fantastic series from the get-go, and the WDCC team deserves a big pat-on-the-back for making it happen.

They hit the ground running with the touching "Ugly Duckling" release, and followed it up with a marvelous throw-back to Enchanted Places with "The Old Mill," which hopefully will arrive on my doorstep soon along with the title scroll.

It's hard to believe they are now on their third release for this series; truly was not expecting to see this series churn 'em out so quickly, but am glad to see that they are. And I think we have another winner with "Little Hiawatha." That bunny is just so darn cute!

This is truly turning out to be a great series!

Notice how Little Hiawatha really captures the lush, retro-colors from that short. Each one has been a winner and can't wait for the next release!

I personally would like to see the following become part of this series:

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod
Elmer & Tillie

Looking over the past WDCC releases, I just have "Donald's Debut." Am seriously considering the Three Little Pigs. I think the style and coloring of these pieces will work well with this series.

Having just received my "Old Mill" - it's fantastic BTW - I'm just so excited about this series that I've got to put in my two cents about what other pieces I would like!

Here they are:
Skeleton Dance
Flowers and Trees
Father Noah's Ark
The Grasshopper and the Ants
Funny Little Bunnies (Easter tie-in)
Cookie Carnival
Who Killed Cock Robin (Jenny Wren, Cock Robin)
Elmer Elephant, Tillie Tiger
Wynken, Blynken and Nod
and... here's a challenge... Mother Goose Goes Hollywood (imagine the rights challenges, but oh what a set it would be! LOL)

That's enough to keep going for several years!! My most wanted of the list however are Wynken, Blynken and Nod and Jenny Wren and Cock Robin.

Thank you again WDCC!

I think that this new series is fantastic. The coloring has been wonderful. My wife really liked the ugly duckling and mother swan. I think the the Old Mill is wonderful. It is a great addition to the collection. It reminds me of the classic "Enchanted Places". Now with Little Hiawatha added, I would feel that Walt would really approve of this series. Hopefully we'll see Elmer Elephant, Tillie Tiger, Wynken, Blynken and Nod, and Fernidand (sp?) the Bull.
Great job and keep up the great work WDCC.

Love the SS series! Little Hiawatha is just too cute. Any chance of getting a 'backside' view of him? Want to see if the piece is similar to a pin I have http://www.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/pin.cgi?pin=14893&sid=5389.1182003837.v2 (www.pinpics.com #14893)
I think he'd be great displayed with my Small World Native American and Peter Pan Fireside set...I like to mix/match my pieces into my own scenes. Great job on this one!

Great ideas Matthew!

Skeleton Dance and Flowers & Trees should definitely be part of this series. Skeleton Dance being the 1st Silly Symphony and Flowers & Trees for winning an Academy Award for Best Short Subject (Cartoon).

Thanks for helping to campaign for Wynken, Blynken and Nod!

I'd like to chime in also what a great job WDCC is doing with this series. So many possibilities and reminds me so much of why I began collecting WDCC - these rare, esoteric characters.

Agree Jeff, the coloring of these pieces are awesome!

Another on the Wynken, Blynken and Nod campaign! They truly need to do include this one. This could be one very detailed piece.

Will definitely see if a back view angle is available Babs.

I think by now, most know what a huge fan I am of the new Silly Symphony Series. Have I talked about it enough? :)

This series just gets more and more amazing with each release! Yesterday, Little Hiawatha & Bunny arrived and looks incredible with the Ugly Duckling & Mother and the Old Mill.

Am SO looking forward to what's next in store for this series in 2008!
