Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms who visit either the blog and/or website today.
The Walt Disney Classics Collection has released some significant sculptures over the year's depicting that special moment of a mother and child.
A very touching mother and child sculpture is this year's Silly Symphony Series release of the Ugly Duckling and his Mother ("A Loving Embrace") sculpted by Jacqueline Perreault Gonzales.
My favorite is Dumbo and Mrs. Jumbo ("Baby Mine"), the 2001 Walt Disney Collectors Society Animator Choice, honoring veteran animator Vladimir "Bill" Tytla sculpted by Patrick Romandy-Simmons.
Also released were Bambi and Mother ("My Little Bambi"), the 2001 Spring Event sculpture, sculpted by Patrick Romandy-Simmons and Perdita with Patch and Puppy ("Patient Perdita") a 1996 Open Edition release sculpted by Chris Peterson.

I wonder how many mothers were surprised with "The Ugly Duckling" piece today?
While technically not a mother and her child, I also tend to associate the piece of Lady and cradle (Welcome Little Darling) from "Lady and the Tramp" with Mother's Day.
Personally, I would associate Lady & Cradle ("Welcome Little Darling") to welcome a birth, much like Dumbo and Mr. Stork ("Bundle of Joy").
I surprised my wife with it and all she said was that it was an inventive way to get that piece added to my collection. She did like it but her favorite is Bambi and Mother.
I think they should continue this Mother/Child sculpture idea. There's plenty of potential in it. They could do a piece with Lambert the Sheepish Lion & his mom, a Pegasus piece from Fantasia or aKanga & Roo piece next. Who knows? It might catch on.
I think this new "Mother/Child" piece is my favorite one of the bunch. I'm also a big fan of the Dumbo piece.
Decided to display all of the parent and child pieces as well as the baby pieces together in the living room. Decided on Ugly Duckling and Swan, Bambi and Mother, Dumbo and Mrs. Jumbo, and Triton and Ariel. I also added Mr. Stork and Baby Dumbo and Lady and the Baby in Cradle. Just need to add Baby Herc and Baby Pegasus. Turned out really nice.
Am I missing any other parent and child pieces or baby pieces? Just thought of the recent Gepphetto and Pinocchio piece.
It's giving a nice conversation area in the living through Father's Day.
Don't forget Mufasa & Simba.
I think that will do it.
Here I'm thinking there are more Mother/Child pieces only to find out that there are equal amounts of parent/child statues.
