Lonesome Ghosts

Lonesome Ghosts, starring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy as members of the agency "Ajax Ghost Exterminators" was released on December 24, 1937.

Four green phantoms want some fun, so they invite ghostbusters Mickey, Donald, and Goofy over to their haunted home with the aim of driving them crazy but things don't work out as planned.

As Donald observes "So you can't take it, you big sissies!". Goofy offers what is considered the short's most memorable quote while warily looking around him: "I'm brave but I'm careful." Another Goofy quip is "I ain't scared of no ghosts!", a line repeated in Ray Parker, Jr's hit Ghostbusters, the theme song of the 1984 film of the same name.

A rumor surfaced a few years ago that a Lonesome Ghost sculpture had been planned as a Disneyana release but never materialized (pardon the pun :)) Lonesome Ghosts continues to come up in conversations with fellow collectors, so in keeping with the Halloween Spirit, started a poll yesterday (at right) to gauge interest for something to be released from this film. The poll will end on Sunday at midnight.

I love this short, and have wanted a WDCC scene from it for a long time. I'll still keep hoping!

Thanks Don.

Hi Matthew,

I think it could make a great WDCC release. The scene definitely would need to include the four ghosts.

Wonder with the Fab Five (specifically Mickey & Donald) represented in current WDCC releases (Mickey Mouse Club, Mickey and the Beanstalk and Mickey's Christmas Carol), if another scene release containing them, would be Fab Five overload?

One of my favorite shorts. You bring up a good point Duckman. I'm a Fab Five collector so am glad we're seeing more Fab Five related releases. No complaints here. Lonesome Ghosts and Hawaiian Holiday are two I keep hoping we'll see done. Thanks for bringing up for discussion.

Hey Dennis,

Your welcome! I actually prefer the classic films to the animated shorts, though have some of them represented in my collection. I'd like to see Lonesome Ghosts done if a scene that included the Ghosts as well. Hawaiian Holiday is the one I keep hoping we'll see done since seeing the hand-painted cel from that film in the Polynesian Lobby at WDW.
