'Sword in the Stone' Release Making Mim First Gold Circle Villain!

The Sword in the Stone may have been forgotten or ignored by some, but the wizard's duel between the backhanded Mim and the wise Merlin remains a memorable highlight from the film and the Walt Disney Classics Collection recreates this moment in it's first Gold Circle release for 2007!

"Wizards Duel" is a 3-piece boxed set that features Merlin (8-1/2"), Madam Mim (6-1/8") and Archimedes and Wart (5-1/2") released this month as a Numbered Limited Edition (NLE) in an edition size of 750, SRP of $325.00 US. Also released is the Opening Title.

This release not only marks the WDCC debut of Merlin, Archimedes and Madam Mim but also giving Mim the distinction of being the first Villain to be the subject of a Gold Circle release! Merlin & Mim were sculpted by Bruce Lau and Archimedes and Wart sculpted by Jacqueline Perreault Gonzales.

The first Gold Circle release was in 1997, Donald Duck from "The Wise Little Hen" and since, the sculptures have been the debut releases of some of the Fab Five characters, Winnie-the-Pooh, Disney couples, the Walt Disney Studios Holiday Card series and the first releases from Disney's It's a Small World series based on the theme park attraction to name a few.

I always check the WDCC site for updates, & now I have this blog to look forward to, too! Great job & thanks!

I really like this set. I especially like the look of Merlin. Bruce Lau did a superb job once again. I'm definitely saving up for this one.

Hi Kushal,

I agree: you can't beat the Duckman's site for WDCC information.

If you would like to contact me at scampbylt@yahoo.com, I can provide you with some information on a WDCC Collectors Forum.

Didn't realize Mim was the first Gold Circle Villain. Love these extra bits of info!

Personally, think this set is one of the best of the new releases.

Glad you're enjoying the trivia. Another benefit of expanding the Newsflash section into the blog. More space to post these fun facts.

Thought that was very interesting trivia regarding Mim. Up to this point, a Villain has never been the subject of a Gold Circle release.

Great scene!

I absolutely love this set. Sword in the Stone is one of my favorite movies!! I only just got back into the WDCC, after a 7 year hiatus and what a time to get back into it! Sword in the Stone pieces, Pirates pieces.... I love them all.

Duckman, both sites are great. I hope you will be posting all this great info on a regular basis!
