Enesco Unveils The Walt Disney Archives Collection at D23 Expo! (Part 1 of 3)

I recently attended the D23 Expo held at the Anaheim Convention Center (August 14-16, 2015) in California. To the surprise of many, Enesco, LTD. unveiled a new line .. the Walt Disney Archives Collection!

This line, by the same team who brought us the Walt Disney Classics Collection, unveiled this new line based on maquettes actually used in the films. The initial releases touch on early films (Pinocchio and Fantasia) and current films (Frozen) and shorts (Get a Horse).

The sculpts are based on actual maquettes, down to the texture and coloring. For fans of the Walt Disney Classics Collection, these maquettes will make a nice, added addition to your collection. This entry features upcoming releases from Pinocchio, Fantasia and Get a Horse!

Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio (1940)

Pinocchio was the first Disney feature to utilize animator models or "maquettes." This skillfully crafted, hand-painted sculpture originates from a late 1930's Pinocchio animation maquette from the Walt Disney Animation Research Library

 Elephant from Fantasia (1940)

This skillfully crafted, hand-painted sculpture originates from an animation maquette in The Walt Disney Archives. The Fantasia Elephant maquette reproduced for this edition was on display at the end of 1966 on the north windowsill of Walt Disney's formal office on the Burbank Studios lot.

Mickey and Minnie Color Maquettes


The exuberant Mickey and Minnie hand-painted sculptures are from the Disney short, Get a Horse! (2013).  Walt Disney, the original voice of Mickey Mouse, provides all of Mickey's dialogue, carefully crafted from vintage shorts.
