"We truly appreciate the fans and collectors who have been eagerly awaiting the Walt Disney Classics Collection product launch by Precious Moments Incorporated®. After extensive consultation with Disney®, we have jointly decided not to move forward with the release of the collection. The Walt Disney Classics Collection will be placed into the “vault” alongside other cherished Disney classics.
We invite you to continue to celebrate Disney characters and stories with the beautifully crafted collectibles available in the Disney Showcase Collection by Precious Moments. These exquisite pieces are available at Disney Theme Parks, DisneyStore.com, PreciousMoments.com, and specialty retailers.
Thank you for your continued support of Precious Moments Incorporated."
I'm glad they decided to let the WDCC go out with dignity as the wonderful collection it was. Thank you for the amazing memories and friends I made thru the WDCC, and to the sculptors, Enesco staff and dealers that I have had the privilege to meet on this journey. The WDCC conventions were among the best vacations I ever had, and I was grateful I had the opportunity to attend them.
ReplyDeleteDon, thank you soooo much for your WDCC website, the ultimate source!! Any detail about a piece could be answered by your site. It truly was the encylopedia of our collections.
I love my WDCC collection.
I love my WDCC friends.
And most of all, I love all the years of WDCC memories.....
ps....I wish we had gotten a Flynn Rider to go with Rapunzel.
Am I sad? Of course I'm sad. You don't just collect something for 20 years and want it to end.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if they can't do justice with the quality and integrity of the line, then yes, I'd rather have it end than to see a cheapen version of our beloved treasures.
At least we have fond memories, wonderful pieces of art, and ever-lasting friendships that the Walt Disney Classics Collection has brought to us.
From the beginning it was more than 'just collecting'.
Thank you, Don, for your years of dedicated service to collectors, and to all the sculptors and behind-the-scenes people that inspired, created, and lived up to standards the likes Walt Disney himself would approve.
Better that they came to their senses instead of trying to launch and getting a bad report. Then the line would have ended on a sour note. The line ended on a high note. Don, thanks for all that you have done with the collection. As Michelle said, I love my WDCC friends that I have made and they have become "friends and family". I love all my pieces and wish they were able to continue. Traci did such a tremendous job helping preserve the true classics that Disney created. Now I can save for more cabinets!!
ReplyDeleteDeep down I knew this was coming and I agree with everyone's setiment about this being the best thing for the line. But at the same time it really is bittersweet. I will say the ending of WDCC has left a void in our lives.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything I have so enjoyed collecting. I miss opening our front door and seeing
cartons from GOL with green boxes inside....
A couple years ago we would be getting ready to head to GOL for their fall signing event, those events will be sadly missed......
Every evening when the lights come on in our curios and all our pieces are illuminated it still puts a smile on our faces.
The memories and friendships taken away from this will be lifelong!
A big thank you to Don for the selfless hours he has put into his site and making it the go to place for all WDCC collectors.
Don't know what we would have done without it.
Thank you to Traci her team at Enesco and all the sculptors for making WDCC the premier line that it was. I think we all knew without Traci and her team at the helm, this line was destined to doom.
It was a great run!!!!!!
I agree with everyone about the wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteLately I see the new characters like those in Frozen and wonder what pieces WDCC would make. It is really hard to let go of the fun of that kind of anticipation.
I am heartbroken. I loved the artist events and seeing Don at Gallery of the Lakes. My husband just said, "It's the end of an era." So true.

Is there a change that Enesco will ever get/buy the licence back? I still can't believe it's over. I still hope that the line will continue. So many pieces i want to see made. When i saw the trailer of Frozen, all i could think was: wow they can make incredible pieces from this movie. Or when i rewatched Tangled, i thought how awesome the boat with lanterns would look as WDCC.
ReplyDeleteI was truly hoping there would be some way the WDCC line could continue. If it could not continue with the same exquisite details from the awesome creative artists and with the wonderful Traci and the best GOL to represent it, then it is time to say goodbye.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Don for sharing all your knowledge and love of the Duck. The best times were getting to see everyone at GOL and share great times with great people. We are so fortunate to have these memories and hope we can continue to keep in touch.
A special thanks to Ray, Elaine & Gary as the gracious hosts to all the wonderful events over the years. Every event was more special than the last and I will cherish all the artists and guests we got to meet up close and share their special stories.
WDCC has touched our lives in so many ways and brought so much joy to Bill and I. Thank you to all!
i give PM credit for ending it..It was way over due, the line has been dead for a few years now and to have the insight to go out this way and let us remember it when it was great is a smart business decision. Enesco ended it for a good reason and it should not be renewed..Thanks for 20+ great years....and thanks PM for going out with Dignity.
ReplyDeleteWe have been collecting for many years and have well over a hundred pieces, mostly older items. It's time to sell off. If anyone is looking for any older please contact me at lew.blum44@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed then philosophical when I heard this news back in November. After not entirely satisfactory stabs at other Disney figures (and a rejection of the PM range as not at all to my taste), I realised today that this is an opportunity to go on a quest to find the pieces I never got. Excited again. Hello to all.
ReplyDeleteI just found this blog, I was a collector in the very early years 1992-1997 and a charter member of the society, have been looking for the collectors society for a long time and am sorry to hear it was ended. I am now at a point in my life where I have no place to display or store my figurines - and would love to pass them onto some one who will love and display them. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested, at slundback@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSad news! I was a charter member and have enjoyed my many pieces. I am now looking to get rid of most of my pieces so if anybody is interested you can reach me at lkimple44@gmail.com.
