Additional Retirement & Suspensions for 2009!

The Walt Disney Classics Collection is pleased to announce a retirement and several sculpture suspensions effective Monday, February 23, 2009:

Penguin Ornament from Disney's It's a Small World After All.

The Penguin Ornament is a dry retirement.
A dry retirement is when there is no longer stock in inventory. The Penguin Ornament made his WDCC debut in July, 2006.

The following sculptures have been suspended:

Lumiere ("Vive L'Amour!") from Beauty and the Beast. Lumiere was released in March 1997 along with Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts & Chip. All three Enchanted Objects were sculpted by Valerie Edwards. Special Note: Neither Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts & Chip have been retired and/or suspended.

The Pinocchio Opening Title was released in September 1996 with the first scene release from Pinocchio which consisted of Pinocchio, Geppetto, Jiminy Cricket and Figaro.

The Sword in the Stone Opening Title was released in April 2007 with the Numbered Limited Edition (NLE) release of Merlin, Madam Mim and Archimedes from Sword in the Stone.

These items have not been retired but are sold out at the warehouse and there are no immediate plans to re-order. Collectors who are interested in either of these items should contact an Authorized Walt Disney Classics Collection retailer for availability.

  1. Surprised at so many suspensions. Hopefully a great scene or few pieces will come out to warrant the reordering of the titles. I think the titles are so special and really complete the scene/piece/shelf, etc., for me.

The little penguin is sooo adorable. No wonder it sold out at the warehouse. Was wondering if I should try and find two more to make my little scene from the ride. They have four or five penguins twirling around, which always brings a smile to my face.

  2. Hey Jeff,

Agree. As of late, quite a few Opening Title suspensions. In hindsight, rather see them suspend vs. retire, gives you more hope that something else will be released at a later date. For example, from Pinocchio, still patiently waiting for the Coachman and Alexander. I've been a fan of the Opening Titles since I first started to collect. Talking with a dealer over the weekend, he mentioned a lot of the newer collectors aren't interested in the titles like the early collectors :(

The Penguin Ornament is very cute. He would be a great one for them to do in full size as well. JTDO.

  3. If anyone is looking for the Penguin Ornament, WDW had them in stock at DHS, MK, Epcot and AK gallery stores. I think, but could be wrong, that Downtown Disney Art of Disney did not have out on display.
