A New Year ...

Hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start! Being an accountant, mine is busy as usual with year-end, opening the new year in addition to taking down holiday decorations, getting Amanda back to school and spending as much free time as I can with my latest passion/obsession, collecting Disney Pixar diecast cars from Cars .. LOL! This takes me back to when younger collecting Matchbox with my brother .. good times and having just as much fun this time around!

Onto WDCC News & Updates:

2009 Membership Kits: For those on auto-ship with their Society memberships, those have already shipped and starting to arrive in homes and kits are also starting to arrive at Authorized WDCC Dealers as well.

Special Note: Included with dealer information for 2009, it was noted that Dumbo from The Mickey Mouse Club had a status change. When originally released, he was listed as an Open Edition release. His status was changed to Limited to Production Year 2008. Check with your dealer for availability.

Decided today to get some much needed updates to the website, adding some additional angles (Elizabeth Swann & Will Turner) and first quarter releases to the Secondary Guide.

Clicking on the image at right, you'll find additional angles for both Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner have been added to the presentation page. Will Turner is an Open Edition release and Elizabeth Swann is a Numbered Limited Edition (NLE) of 1,000. Both were sculpted by Joel Harlow and scheduled for a February 2009 release along with an Opening Title.

For your added viewing pleasure, Ruben Procopio has added concept drawings for both Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner on his blog, Masked Avenger Studios. Be sure to click on each concept drawing for a larger view.

  1. Happy New Year, Don!

So, what does this mean for the MMC Dumbo? Is he sold out or near sell out from Enesco?

Appreciate the many new angles for Elizabeth and Will, definitely a helpful feature if you can't check the pieces out in a store. Was hoping an additional viewing angle would allow me to see Keira Knightley more in the sculpt, but just not seeing her despite Joel actually having been involved in the film. Of course, the live action characters have always been hard to capture well in the WDCC.

  2. This year was the first time I got my Membership Kit here in Europe already at Christmas. Thanks a lot Enesco!

  3. Happy New Year to you too Jason!

Regarding Dumbo, information said Quantities are Limited!, so assuming it's still available at the warehouse but not sold out yet. Possibly there is a large enough inventory to work down vs. putting more in production. Great sculpt. My favorite of the Mickey Mouse Club releases.

Like you, not seeing Kiera Knightly in this sculpture. Felt a good job was done on Will Turner, can see Orlando Bloom in the sculpture. As you said, human characters are quite hard to translate to 3D.

  4. Congratulations Alex! Friends of mine here in the US on auto-ship did not receive until after Christmas.

  5. Can't wait to receive our membership kit/Dopey! Also, the new releases will not be coming out fast enough! I told Ray that we will just be on auto ship! As collectors, we have a very strong start to 2009! We will definitely keep the economy going.

  6. Still haven't received my auto ship membership kit yet. My dealer had theres a few weeks back. The whole idea of being on autoship was to be the first to get yours. Guess I need to re-think and maybe just go directly through the dealer from now on. Thanks for the updates Don!

  7. Toni-I'm anxious for Hawaiian Holiday and the Vultures from The Jungle Book (both scheduled for Feb.). Agree, 2009 is off to a great start with both the members only and non-member releases.

Geoffrey-I've always opted to renew through a dealer but have friends who have been doing auto-ship since the beginning. Since others have posted about receiving their kits (both in the US and abroad), have you tried contacting the Collector Society to see why the delay with yours?

  8. Don

I contacted Disney yesterday and mine was sent to shipping on December 24th but due to the holidays she believed it was probably shipped out on the 6th so we'll see. Thanks for asking and trying to take care of me though!

Also, the Hawaiian scene has started to show up at the dealers so you might want to check on that as well, fyi!!!! I'm not sure that all of them have arrived. Last I heard it was just Mickey, Minnie and Goofy, sorry Don, I know that you are waiting with baited breathe for Mr Donald Duck!!

  9. Agree that Elizabeth Swann's face definitely does not look like Kiera. Joel did do a overall good job based off the design drawings that Ruben posted on his blog http://maskedavengerstudios.blogspot.com/2008/12/wdcc-designs.html . If anything, the face of Elizabeth does resemble moreso the design drawing done by Ruben.

  10. Geoffrey-You're more than welcome. Based on the information you received, looks like your kit should arrive this week. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the heads up on Hawaiian Holiday as well. Contacted my dealer and he hasn't received stock yet, so went ahead and pre-ordered the whole set and told him to ship to me as it comes in. LOL! You know me well Geoffrey. Donald is the one I'm most anticipating and probably will be the last one I receive :( Really looking forward to seeing this set in person!

Michelle-Thanks Michelle for the reminder that Ruben posted concept drawings for both Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner. Updated the blog entry to include a direct link to the images.

  11. I finally received my kit yesterday. Dopey is very cute. So any word on when we're going to receive our members only certificates? Thanks Don!

  12. Hi Geoffrey,

No word yet. We saw a sample of the Members Only Redemption Certificates book at the Gallery of the Lakes Signing Event. My guess it will be included in the next Society mailing.

  13. I got my members only redemption packet yesterday in the mail!

  14. Hi Geoffrey,

Was it mailed separately or contained with Sketches?

  15. Separately, just the booklet of postcards and redemption certs.

  16. Hi Don,

My copy of Sketches arrived yesterday and did include the 2009 members redemption booklet as well as the 2008 Fall Catalog and "Join the Society" pamphlets for both 2008 & 2009. I assume the 2008 pamphlet was included as the enclosed letter mentioned having Donald kits still available for members whose Society expiration was in November or December.

  17. Hi Jason,

No sign of Sketches yet here in Western PA :(

I would agree with you regarding the "Join the Society" pamphlet, given this mailing was scheduled for Fourth Quarter. Glad to see they're finally arriving. Had hoped mine would have came today. Oh well, there's always tomorrow :)
