Sighting of Prince Phillip & Briar Rose!

The much anticipated Prince Phillip & Briar Rose (originally scheduled for March, 2007 release) has begun to arrive in stores this past week. Spoke to Ray at Gallery of the Lakes over the weekend and he shared the following:

"Philip & Briar Rose began arriving this week...it will really be one of the most beautiful pieces in the collection. I'm amazed at the hands & the unsupported open space between them...incredible sculpting and the final paint detail on Philip makes him one of the best looking princes to date & a lot more 'sturdy' looking than the early pictures led us to believe. She's innocently stunning."

Prince Phillip and Briar Rose are an Open Edition release sculpted by Margi Wray with a SRP of $295.00 US. Also available (pictured) are the Woodland Creatures, released in March, 2007 which is also an Open Edition release with a SRP of $135.00 US.

  1. I know there were some complaints about the Prince and Aurora being one piece, but I think that with the hands being so close without touching that it would have been to hard to achieve with two separate pieces.

  2. Agree Matthew. If done as separate sculpts, I don't think the moment would have been captured as well as it was.

Hopefully sales will be good and WDCC would consider adding Samson to round out the scene.

  3. And don't forget the bunnies in Prince Phillips boots! ;-)

  4. This was my favorite piece of the first quarter, but was reserving total judgement until I got to see it in person. Well, we just got it in late last week and I have to say, I love it! The hands look very delicate and I'm sure the extra packing and such in the box is why they were late. I hope they add some more pieces as it would make a really nice scene.

  5. Hard to imagine this scene not being a break-out hit, given the amazing way the sculpts turned out. The feelings and emotion captured in this scene are truly something. Definitely a scene that deserves being expanded on with the aforementioned ideas of Samson and the boot bunnies.

  6. I received mine a week or so ago, and it's just beautiful. The almost touching of the hands, the delicate colours and expressions... just perfect!

Thanks heaps to Ray at Gallery of the Lakes! :-)

Oh, and the forest animals are very nicely captured too!

  7. Very encouraging that this sculpture is getting high marks from both collectors and dealers. Thanks Janeene, Ray & Tony!

Tony, thanks also for your comment on the Woodland Creatures. They help 'flesh' out the scene.

The way the hands are sculpted and the way the two sculptures are coming together seems to be what makes this sculpt stand out vs. just another dancing couple.

  8. With recent discussions talking about what could be added to further flesh out a scene, brought the very first blog posting to the top -- Sighting of Prince Phillip and Briar Rose to discuss interest in Samson being added to the Dancing Briar Rose/Prince Phillip and Woodland Creatures scene.

  9. Realy hope for a sampson to ad to this scene. I just love it so far, but this would be a great change to give us sampson

  10. Koen, saw this scene yesterday and took the time to really study it well. Very well done!

Specifically like how their hands are almost touching and the way her other hand is positioned on her back.

It's truly a great scene and the addition of Samson would really make it complete!
